Asian American Marriage Therapy

in San Jose

Asian Americans need to balance the intersection of multiple social identities and cultures. Often those people need to tackle immigration, patriarchy, and difference in family values, which sometimes affect the ability to form romantic relationships.

We should feel lucky that we have the opportunity to enjoy all of the benefits that come with living in America, while we still have the chance to enjoy our Asian culture.

As society becomes more accepting and open to intercultural relationships, marriages among Asian Americans are increasing. Whit that the issues and conflicts in the marriages due to cultural differences and values rise as well.

My Unique Approach to Asian American Marriage Therapy

I have many years of experience in the field.

I have more than 17 years of experience helping families overcome their problems. When I did my program back in the 1990s, I was the only Asian person in my MFT program. I went to SF State which is very diverse, and yet there were very few of us studying counseling.

I am proud to say that I have many years of counseling under my belt, that I started before many other Asian Americans came into the field, and that I continue to learn and grow as a professional.

Everything I do, I do with passion

My passion is to be able to help people live their lives to the full potential, to be happy each morning they open their eyes. Despite the fact that my family always encouraged me to take the “safe” career path and study business, I listened to my inner voice and followed my dream to study psychology.

I have never regretted this decision. I feel inspired and excited every day that I’m able to see and talk with my clients.

I learn and improve every day

I attended two wonderful schools for psychology (undergrad) and Marriage Family Therapy (graduate school). I’m passionate about my work and I always strive to provide the best help for my clients. That’s why I continue to study and research psychological papers from other professionals in the field. I often attend conferences and seminars and try to learn the best practices.

There is a lot of stigma around going to therapy (especially within the Asian American community), having a marriage counselor to help you establish a good relationship is important.

You can transform your negative situation into something that helps grow you into a more thoughtful, resilient, and deeper person. Therapy can also help you build some healthy habits and behaviors when it comes to communicating with your partner.

You may be still questioning whether or not to seek marital treatment.  Give me a call, email, or text with any questions you have.

Book your free 20-minute Asian American marriage consultation and ask any questions you’d like, or to just chat with me about what you’re going through. I’m here to help.
